Description

Tradition, Culture & Entrepreneurship
“Weingut Schloss Proschwitz” is the oldest private winery in Saxony. It is an amalgamation, formed from four religious vineyard sites that have been joined together with high quality aspirations under the name of the family crest “Lippe’sche Rose”. They are the former vineyards of The Bishop of Meissen, Abbot of Altzella, Clarissinnen of Seuslitz as well as the monastery of the “Holy Cross” on the southern bank of the river Elbe. The Vineyards in Proschwitz also belonged to the Bishop of Meissen until the time of the reformation, where a large proportion of the scaremental wine for Saxony was produced.

Quality through Tradition & Passion
The premium red and white wines are produced on approximately 90 hectares. Saxony is one of the smallest wine growing regions in Germany and has the lowest average harvest yield per hectare. The wines are as such very rare. The winery “Weingut Schloss Proschwitz” became the first member of the VDP (the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) from Saxony.

The family history
The family history of Prinz zur Lippe dates back to Germanic Nobility and was first mentioned as a sovereign family at the beginning of the 12th century. Until 1918, the family was part of the ruling dynasties of Germany and also related to many families of the aristocracy of Europe.

The ancestors of Dr. Georg Prinz zur Lippe lived in Sa- xony since the beginning of the 18th century, and were one of the most important entrepreneurial families in the area. In 1945 the family was expropriated without compensation. For ideological reasons, they were sent to prison camps and were later deported to West Germany. In the years following 1990, Dr. Georg Prinz zur Lippe bought back his family‘s winegrowing estate. In 1997, following long negotiations, he was also able to buy back the family residence, Proschwitz castle. Since then he has steadily rebuilt the winery and Proschwitz castle with a high sense of personal commitment.

Wine Region Saxony | Germany
Wine classification Spätlese VDP Gutswein | White Wine | Dry

Description This cuvee presents a fine aroma of the Traminer grape: delicate scent of roses, lychee and a hint of honey, which can be found on the palate again. The Riesling complements the cuvee with its har- monious acidity and ripe grapefruit nuances that present themselves gently in the finish. The wine received a silver medal at the 2015 Decanter com- petition.
Serving temperature 8- 10 Grades

The white wines

The white wine reflects uniquely the terroir of our vineyard with a refined fruitiness and minerality on the finish. Both single sites “Schloss Proschwitz” and “Kloster Heilig Kreuz” are distinguished by a similar soil structure. Both sites are characterized by a six meter thick loess/loam layer resting on top of granite and syanit rocks. However they differenti- ate remarkably in terms of their disposition and micro climate.

Treating the wines with upmost respect is our highest priority, especially during the maturation process. We try to secure the authenticity by controlling the temperature and fermentation precisely, avoiding consciously the manual manipulation of our wine every year. Our wines strive on their personality and not uniformity.

Heger Pinot Blanc Oktav | Kaiserstuhl Germany

Heger Pinot Blanc Oktav | Kaiserstuhl Germany
Name of the wine Heger Pinot Blanc Oktav (Weissburgunder)
Vintage 2013
Producer Weingut Heger
Wine Region Baden Kaiserstuhl | Germania
Wine classification Kabinett | Dry | White Wine
Grape varieties 100% Pinot Blanc
Alcohol content 12 % Vol
Serving temperature 1o-12 Grades

The Weinhaus Heger Kabinett wines have an additional designation "oktav". This term means premium Kabinett quality. The alcohol content already suggests that this is a more fullbodied wine than is usual for Kabinett wines  an “octave” higher. Under German wine law, which classifies a wine’s quality by its Oechsle content, Oechsle being the measure of the natural sugar content in the grape, it would also have been possible to classify this wine as a Spätlese.

VITUS – are premium wines made from Pinot blanc, Pinot gris and Pinot noir. The white wines are fermented and matured in barriques and the red wines are matured in barriques after having completed alcoholic fermentation first. The grapes for these very fine wines come from selected sites belonging to the Weinhaus Heger. The name VITUS refers to Vitus Severin Heger, one of Joachim Heger’s great-uncles who was particularly adventurous. Although he was a success- ful wine merchant at Lake Constance, he got itchy feet in the Thirties and went to seek his fortune in America.

Spätburgunder  Schloss Proschwitz | Saxony Germany

Name of the wine Spätburgunder | Pinot Nero
Vintage 2012
Producer Weingut Schloss Proschwitz
Wine Region Saxony | Germany
Wine classification Qba | Red  Wine | Dry
Grape varieties Pinot Nero
Alcohol content 14,% Vol
Description The Pinot Noir displays a bright ruby red colour. The nose shows intense fruit flavours such as wild berries, hints of chocolate and leather notes. Despite being young the Pinot Noir is already displaying great balance and harmony. The berry fruit flavours are reflected on the palate and are also accompanied by a hint of cocoa. The wine shows good minerality that in nicely balanced with ‘soft’ integrated tannins. This Pinot Noir has good aging potential. For an optimal development of aromas, we recommend decanting this wine.
Serving temperature 8- 10 Grades
The red wines Key to the quality of the wines is our decision to avoid high volume yields from the harvest. Our use of ‘green’ ‘sustainable’ and ‘environmentally conscious’ processes in the vineyard, combined with the timely defoliation of the vines enhances the high quality of our product. Our wines develop through open fermentation, partially in oak vats. With must weights that are often well above 100 degrees Oechsle, we are able to produce fascinating base wines which are refined by maturing in barrels for up to 24 months. Even with our cuvées such as „Moritz“ and „Friederike“, we aim at strong bodies and individuality.

Heger Riesling Erste Lage | Kaiserstuhl Germany

Name of the wine Heger Riesling IHRINGER WINKLERBERG
Vintage 2014
Producer Weingut Heger
Wine Region Baden Kaiserstuhl | Germania
Wine classification VDP Erste Lage | Dry | White Wine
Grape varieties 100% Riesling
Alcohol content 12 % Vol
Serving temperature 10 - 12 Grades

Our single vineyard sites Ihringer Winklerberg and Achkarrer Schlossberg provide optimum conditions for the king of white wines. The weathered volcanic bedrock gives Riesling the mineral compounds it needs to be able to produce its fruity and richly aromatic bouquet and on the palate this Riesling shows typical varietal fla- vours. In this southerly wine producing region of Baden acidity is generally less pronounced than in the more northerly Riesling regions and this makes the wines fuller in body and more opulent.

95% of Heger's wines are fermented dry and the percentage of the wines which have a “Predicate” is also 95%. They produce natural wines, which are suited to long ageing. For this it is necessary to have grapes which are sufficiently ripe. This means that for us the time of the harvest is determined not only by the must weight, but also, and more importantly, by the so-called physiological maturity.
